Feasibility and Clinical Utility of Assessing Behavioral and Psychological Risk Factors in Pain Management

This cross-sectional study provides a snapshot of the psychological stressors that may be present in patients being treated for chronic pain (i.e., persistent pain lasting > 3 months). The pilot work suggests that the prevalence of psychological distress may occur more frequently in chronic pain patients than in the general population. Therefore, it is important for pain management providers to consider a patient’s mental health (e.g., symptoms of anxiety or depression) when managing their care.
