Dr. Shores is a fellowship-trained interventional pain physician with over 20 years of experience practicing medicine in Northwest Florida. He is the only board-certified pain management expert in the Florida Panhandle with dual specialty training and board certifications in both anesthesiology pain medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation. His expertise allows him to evaluate and treat a wide range of conditions, from their onset up to the need for surgery, using the latest advances in interventional pain management, musculoskeletal medicine, and physical medicine and rehabilitation.
Dr. Shores completed his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Florida State University and earned his Doctorate of Medicine from Ross University School of Medicine in 1999. He completed his internship in internal medicine at the Medical College of Georgia and his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Georgetown University Hospital-National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C. During his residency, he received numerous awards for outstanding performance and served as chief resident from 2002-2003.
His distinguished career includes serving active and retired military members at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and conducting research on Complex Regional Pain Syndrome/Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He further specialized by completing a fellowship in anesthesiology interventional pain management at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Since 2004, Dr. Shores has been practicing pain medicine in Northwest Florida. He has served as Director of Pain Medicine at Bay Medical Center and has been a member of the Board of Directors at Panama City Surgery Center.
Dr. Shores is committed to utilizing all available resources and treatments to safely reduce his patients’ suffering. He incorporates a multi-disciplinary, evidence-based approach, including traditional therapies like behavioral modification, bracing, injections, and physical therapy, as well as alternative therapies such as biofeedback, guided imagery, acupuncture, weight management, and organic pharmaceutical-grade supplements. Dr. Shores prioritizes his patients’ needs by listening to their concerns and incorporating their desires into the decision-making process, formulating individualized, patient-centered treatment programs focused on controlling pain and restoring function. His top priority is adding quality back to his patients’ lives.
