Dr. Matthew Lee offers a team-centered approach to his patients’ spine care. He is proud to be a leading member of the TOC Spine Center, which provides spinal evaluation, non-operative treatment, outpatient procedures, and cutting-edge surgical options.
Dr. Lee is a Tallahassee native who graduated from Lincoln High School. He attended Florida State University and received his undergraduate degree in Exercise Physiology, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He achieved his Doctor of Medicine at Florida State University. During medical school, he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, an award for excellent physicianship, including exemplary character, leadership, and compassion, while maintaining exceptional academic standing.
He completed a rigorous orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of Florida College of Medicine Jacksonville, where he was selected as the administrative chief resident for his graduating class. While in training, he performed research projects that were presented at medical meetings and published in peer-reviewed journals.
After completing his residency, he earned a spine surgery fellowship position at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University. He mastered complex surgical techniques with challenging spinal pathology using cutting-edge technology.
He joined TOC in 2012. In the same year, he became board certified as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is an active member of the North American Spine Society and is an Assistant Clinical Professor for the FSU College of Medicine. Dr. Lee continues to be involved in educating the next generation of physicians.
As a trailblazer and experienced surgeon, he provides education and teaches the latest surgical techniques to practicing neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons. He has traveled around the country to show other surgeons his procedural workflow and provide advice for incorporating advanced navigation-assisted surgical methods into their practices. He mentors other surgeons in his operating suite demonstrating his skills.
Dr. Lee has developed a practice focused on his passion for minimally invasive outpatient spine surgery. Since 2014, he has performed the largest number of computer-navigated surgeries in the area. He continues to look for new advances in CT-guided spine surgery and robotic spine surgery. Additionally, he is focused on a quick recovery and same-day discharge for cervical fusions and cervical disc replacements. He cares for patients along the panhandle and South Georgia, including FSU and FAMU athletes. He values the importance of efficient care and pain relief, allowing his patients to return to normal life with minimal downtime.
Dr. Lee provides exceptional surgical care while putting patients at ease. It is important for patients to understand the root of their pain. He spends time with them explaining the cause of their symptoms and discussing surgical treatment options. He builds a foundation of trust and understanding, which optimizes expectations and results. Being an orthopedic spine surgeon is Dr. Lee’s calling in life. It is an honor for him to serve and care for the patients of the TOC Spine Center.
When he is not working, Dr. Lee enjoys spending time with his wife, Dr. Stephanie Lee (Gynecologist at Elite Women’s Health), and his four children. They like traveling, going to the beach, and playing sports.
