Dr. Messerschmidt is a highly skilled, board-certified orthopedic surgeon with advanced training in sports medicine and arthroscopy, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of athletic injuries and conditions affecting the shoulder and knee. A native of Chantilly, VA, Dr. Messerschmidt earned his Bachelor of Science with high honors from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, before obtaining his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA.
He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC, where he served as chief resident. During his residency, Dr. Messerschmidt received multiple accolades, including the highest in-training exam score and recognition for his clinical science research. He further honed his expertise with a fellowship in sports medicine at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, where he worked alongside renowned teams such as the Atlanta Falcons (NFL) and Georgia Tech athletics (NCAA).
Outside of his professional work, Dr. Messerschmidt enjoys spending quality time with his wife, Dominique, their children and their dog, Riley. His personal interests include running, playing golf and tennis, collecting vinyl records, and grilling in his backyard.
