This study compared baseline ImPACT neurocognitive test performance among amateur motocross riders and age- and sex-matched football and basketball athletes to determine whether sport-specific baseline testing is warranted. The authors found that motocross riders demonstrated significantly slower visual motor speed and reaction times than football and basketball athletes, while memory scores and symptom reporting were similar across groups. These findings suggest that youth motocross athletes have distinct baseline neurocognitive profiles and support the use of sport-specific baseline ImPACT testing for concussion management in amateur motocross riders.
